If you can’t say anything nice…(rant)

I got a package this week in the mail for my thirtieth birthday from my grandma on a day I was feeling kind of bad about myself. Which would have been a lovely surprise except I just turned twenty eight.

Also this week … people were not nice.

Everything was “just a joke” or “the truth”. I “laughed it off” like a champ, but after a few days they started to add up. According to neighbors, co-workers and friends I am:

chubby

weird looking
bad at dealing with peopleย
ย

and I look like:

a lesbian with my new haircut

There were more that I can’t recall at the moment. You guys.

Take it from me…these things are not funny. Digs are still digs, even if you say it in a joking tone. If you have to say “no offense” when you tell someone something, maybe reconsider saying it at all. Because…yes offense.

If you can’t say anything nice, then just SHUT UP.
/end rant

  1. I was always jealous that you got to be the cute counter girl at TZ.

    Fuck those guys.
    You're a knockout AND a sweetheart. That's a deadly combination.

    xo,

  3. How do I not get the chance to talk to you more often?!?

This is my favorite post of the month.

    Yes, I said it.

You're not any of those things, but you are Canadian, so essentially you're an alien to me.

    Alien!

  5. People are supposed to say, “Bless her heart” to soften the blow of an insult. Like, “She's not real smart, bless her heart.” That's how you get away with talking ugly about people, and they can't get mad because you blessed their hearts. Give it a whirl this week…it'll make you feel better!

Love your blog, and I'm now following you. Come check me out too!

I mean, we'd probably have to talk to the boss first…thanks for the sweet comment!

  9. Erin. I am afraid of aliens. Thus, I can not be one or I would die of heart attacks. Maybe it's YOU who is the alien?

I mailed you something a while ago but now that I think about it I may not have included enough postage. Woops.

  11. “If you have to say “no offense” when you tell someone something, maybe reconsider saying it at all”

Exactly! We all say bonehead things from time to time, but some people are assholes and just HAVE to say the first thing that pops into their tiny brain without considering that they might hurt someone!

I guess all you can do is consider the source.
